oh i get it now 05/27/2009

Okay, I get why rich people are thin. Because they can afford to shop at places like Whole Foods and organic health food stores like that. I went in there to buy some stuff, and boy, does everything ever look good. But omg, it's so damn expensive. It's why a friend of mine calls it Whole Paycheque!

Anyway, I wound up buying stuff just to try it. It was expensive, but hey, it must be worth it, right? Uh... wrong! I have to say, the food is pretty subpar, especially for what you're paying. It's totally disappointing because it looks so good and so fresh, and of course you feel no guilt because it's organic and healthier for you too. But why does it have to taste like crap? Seriously, I'm of the belief that healthy does not have to equal tasteless. I know this sounds arrogant, but I can make better food myself!

But here's why rich people are thin. They buy overpriced guilt-free yet tasteless food from trendy places like WF, and the food tastes so bad that they lose their appetite and wind up not eating very much of it. For some, it's probably the best diet ever. You feel like you're buying healthy stuff and the act of tasting the food is in itself a deterrent to eating. Brilliant!

Well at least now I'm motivated to cook my own food from scratch from now on. If you're into organic ingredients, I think there are better, less-flashy places where you can buy your ingredients like farmers markets. I'll stick to those places, thank you very much. I'm so embarassed that I paid what I paid for some of the stuff I bought. SO not worth it. And I found that they sold a lot of the same products that I see at regular supermarkets but they mark up the price a lot more because their display looks prettier than anywhere else. Meh. Whatever!

Though maybe I should buy all my stuff there for a while - I might actually lose some weight that way. ;)

EDIT

Okay, fine. One of the things I bought tasted okay after I re-seasoned it properly. But still, for the cost, it should taste great from the start!

2nd EDIT

Alright. I was too hasty in posting this. I admit that Whole Paycheque does have a lot of products that you can't find elsewhere, like my favourite salad dressings and drinks and stuff. I think I was just hungry and disappointed in the meal I bought, but really, I shoouldn't judge based on one prepackaged meal. I mean, it's prepackaged so what do you expect? Anyway, I'm over it, and sadly, I'll probably still go back.
